Mumbai turned into fortress ahead of World Cup final !!!


On Saturday, the city, especially near Wankhede stadium, will turn into a fortress with men in uniforms ensuring that nothing goes wrong. Force One, Maharashtra police’s elite counter-terrorist commando unit set up after the 26/11 terror attacks, along with the National Security Guard (NSG), would related stories be part of the massive security cordon for the World Cup final to be played in the south Mumbai stadium.
Rajkumar Vhatkar, deputy commissioner of police and Mumbai police’s spokesperson, said all security arrangements would be in place.
“All policemen, including the Anti-Terrorism Squad, will be involved in the security duty,” Vhatkar said.
“Our security arrangements would not only be for the stadium, but the entire city, including Thane and Navi Mumbai,” he added.
Combat forces, such as Force One, Quick Response Team (QRT) and the NSG, would be spread across the city so that they could rush to any trouble spot as soon as possible. From Thursday, 24X7 nakabandis would be conducted and all vehicles checked in south Mumbai, especially near the stadium, until the final match.
On Monday, a joint security drill involving the police, Force One, QRT and NSG personnel was carried out at Wankhede and nearby areas to familarise the forces with the topography of the stadium.




Kumar Sangakkara’s men were faced with more than just the on-field opposition on their way to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 final. While their skills were tested on the field, Sri Lanka Cricket’s administration tested every ounce of their patience, making their lives extremely difficult along the way.

For WC final, Wankhede stadium a no-vehicle zone

The traffic police has declared the area around Wankhede stadium a no-vehicle zone for the World Cup final on Saturday, with some concessions to VVIPs. The restriction follows an advisory issued by intelligence agencies warning of a terror strike using an explosive-laden vehicle.

Mumbai additional commissioner (traffic) Brijesh Singh said, ''Vehicles will not be allowed beyond the Princess Street flyover to the west of the stadium. Only vehicles of VVIPs and police cars will be exempted.''

Aamir Khan all set to cheer for men in blue at Wankhede stadium

The entire nation is rejoicing India’s victory against Pakistan in yesterday’s World Cup Semi Final match in Mohali. And so is Bollywood heavyweight Aamir Khan. 

After having cheered for men in blue in Mohali, the actor is all set to be one in thousand of cricket fans at the Wankhede stadium, the proud host of the World Cup Final match to be played between India and its neighbour Sri Lanka.

The actor, who was seated in the crowd with wife Kiran Rao and colleague Preity Zinta was thrilled to witness India’s convincing win against arch rivals Pakistan.
